Today I am going to focus my time on helping you find scholarships to help you lower the cost of college. The first thing I am going to tell you is, NEVER PAY FOR SCHOLARSHIP HELP! There are companies that will come into your town, usually to a hotel, and will charge you $2,000 or $3,000 for a list of scholarships your student may be eligible for. So before you pay someone for scholarship help, first go to our website, where we have a free search engine. Please use it, even tell your friends about it.
When searching for scholarships, start early, there are scholarships that are available as early as middle school and you should try to take advantage of that. Many of the scholarships you can find for younger students are only available during a certain grade level, so seek those out since the competition won’t be as stiff. Next, you should look for scholarships that have the least amount of competition. What do I mean by this? Let’s pretend there are two scholarships available. One is a list of 10 true or false questions and the other requires you to volunteer somewhere and write a paper about your experience. What do you think happens? Well, every student tries for the first scholarship and the other one goes unclaimed. This happens all the time. So go for the scholarship that requires more work, but has much less competition. Finally, have the right mindset when searching for scholarships. If you attempt 10 different scholarships, spending 40 hours looking for them, and you only get one of them worth $2,000. You didn’t fail 90% of the time, you just made $50 an hour!
Now, private scholarships only represent about 3% of all the money available to pay for college. What I am saying to you is, don’t spend all of your time chasing 3% of the money, there are better and more efficient ways to pay the college bill. Search for a College Funding Workshop near you to get more information to find the best way to save money for college.
I hope you have enjoyed this post, and I look forward to helping you more. If you have a topic you would like me to talk about, feel free to email me the topic and I will do my best to make it happen.
